Sales pages don't have to be ugly

Have you ever sat down and stared at a blank screen, flashing cursor, and were ready to throw your laptop across the room or out the window?

🙋‍♀️ Just me? Ok.

Well if you can relate then writing any copy or content can be hard. So writing your own about page website copy can be even harder. And yes, AI can make it easier, but hear me out. Write your copy first then drop it in your AI of choice and ask it to refine it. Let’s be real, we can all tell when CHAT GPT writes something.🤖

So here are some easy tips that I could share to help you write better about page website copy. Specifically the About Page. (since talking about yourself is the hardest yet easiest thing to do. Go figure.) 🤯

Believe it or not but your About page has everything to do with the reader and almost nothing to do with you. Weird right? Let’s break it down.

What makes people click on the About page is pure curiosity. They want to know more about you, but they really want to see if you are the right fit for them. What you add to your About page should fill their curiosity and make them say “She is my people, I love this, how can I hire her?” 😍

The about-page copy should meet them where they are in life or business (this depends on your niche/industry of course)

A good approach is the FEEL FELT FIND method.

FEEL: Remind them of what it feels like to experience a dilemma/problem that relates to your niche/industry that your service or product solves.

FELT: Tell them how you felt. If you can personally relate to the dilemma/problem then share your sentiment. If you can’t personally relate then share a testimonial of someone who fills that sentiment and overcame it with your product or service.

FIND: Elegantly craft your copy to give them the light at the end of the tunnel. You are that light. Show them that they have indeed found what they need/want and a solution is possible.

Answer the questions below.

🙁 FEEL: What problem or dilemma does your ideal client have?

🙂 FELT: Did you or a previous client overcome the problem? Explain how.

😄 FIND: How exactly do you solve their problem?

Once you have led the reader through the FEEL FELT FIND method, you can start talking about your chops and credentials. Share anything and everything that shows that you are worthy of helping them through their journey.

Unlike corporate brands, personal brands can share favorite hobbies, likes, and dislikes. That kind of content humanizes the business and makes the reader feel closer to you. People buy from people.

1. Brainstorm every credential, accolade, and achievement. How many clients have you worked with? Have you been featured anywhere? If you can drop any important names by all means drop them.

2. Brainstorm interesting, funny facts about yourself that you are willing to share. Favorite TV show, food, hobby, an important quote, etc.

Killer About Page For Showit

Your About page doesn’t even need to be crazy long.

For example look at the About Page from “Kendra” one of our Showit website templates.

Here’s a Demo About Page Section Outline

  • Hero Section – Bold headline to catch their attention
  • About Intro – Feel, Felt, & Find divided with photos.
  • About – Introduce Yourself & add the client’s stats, and logos of where you’ve been featured.
  • About Team (optional)– Headshots of your team and short bios.
  • About Interest (optional) – Fun facts or timelines of your business
  • Testimonials- Great reviews from past clients.
  • Final CTA – Bold Headline calling the reader to take action. (usually to get in contact with you)
  • Of course, every website should be tailored to the needs of your own industry, but remember, your website is arguably one of the most important places where you can showcase yourself & services. Each page should count and be designed and written to turn visitors into buyers.
